Test As a local church we do most things typical of churches. There’s a lot more to who we are than those we call “core ministries” and ministries and initiatives rise and flourish according to available people, along with their passions and sense of God’s call. The following are what we will probably always do and represent the “core” of our enterprise:

Sunday Worship Services

Focused on God, rather than ourselves, we gather on Sundays to offer praise and worship to God. The style and flavour of our corporate worship events differ, as we don’t have God in a box. There are many elements to the act of corporate worship; none the least being the heart of the person who offers God their praise. We sing, we pray, we give, we open the Scriptures and we fellowship – following patterns followed by Christians for thousands of years. Children’s Ministry

Jesus made it clear that children are important and precious, so we follow his lead! The Bible also states that primary responsibility for teaching and modeling faith rests with parents; our desire as a church is to partner with parents in helping children develop a strong spiritual foundation. A range of age related Sunday programmes occur during our 10:30am service (Hamilton Central – see below) and during the noon service (Te Whanau Putahi), supplemented with social activities and family events at other times.

  • Explorers (2-4 year olds)
  • Discoverers (5-6 year olds)
  • Fuel (7 year olds – Year 6)
  • Focus Youth (Year 7-9 (Intermediate age))

In addition, the Kowhai Room (opposite the Church Office or accessed from the rear of auditorium) is available to parents and babies requiring feeding or changing (Hamilton Central) whilst allowing audio and visual access to the service. Leaders and helpers have a love for children and are carefully selected (vetted) to ensure a safe environment. There’s a lot more to our philosophy of ministry to/with children; if you’d like to know more, contact Olivia Hitchcock our Children’s and Families Pastor (P: 07-838 0375, Ext 212; E: ohitchcock@hcbc.nz) for further details visit the Children’s Ministry page.

Youth Ministry – Woven Youth

Teenage years are both formative and precarious. So many life values are formed that impact future life patterns, and are key years for establishing faith in Jesus Christ. Baptist Churches around New Zealand, and at HCBC in particular, have a strong commitment to reaching young people with the Gospel and engaging them as life-long, dedicated followers of Jesus. Woven Youth, the name for HCBC’s youth ministry, includes a variety of social events (usually on Saturday nights) that are fun, safe and an excellent environment for young people to invite their friends. They also gather on Sunday evenings (5:15pm) for a more intentional engagement with how the Bible informs our faith.

Visit Woven Youth’s Facebook page for more details, or if you’d like to know more contact Nathan Cunliffe our Youth Pastor (P: 07-838 0375, Ext 213; E: ncunliffe@hcbc.co.nz).

Life Groups

At the heart of a healthy church is a sense of community. We connect with God, and he connects us with his family. Christianity is a team sport, not a solo discipline. Together we inspire, encourage and hold each other accountable in our spiritual journey. To help facilitate this sense of community we invite all who make us their church home to link with a Life Group. Groups meet at different days and times of the week, and vary in size – usually maxing out at around 12 people so that everyone participates. Life Groups are the primary place where pastoral support and care happens during the tough times, and also the places where we celebrate life and forge meaningful friendships. Group activities typically include opportunity to pray together and for one another’s needs, and also to study the Scriptures. Many groups discuss the teaching from the previous Sunday and how the principles taught can be applied. Other times the dynamic of our Life Groups are simply being together and having fun, or even doing projects together. They really are the heartbeat of our church community and we strongly encourage everyone to link with a group. If you’d like to know more about our Life Groups and one you could connect with contact our Associate Pastor John Lockley (P: 07-838 0375, Ext 209; E: jlockley@hcbc.nz), and he will discuss options with you.

Global Mission

God loves the whole world; therefore so do we! We’re committed to engaging with people and ministries that take the good news of Jesus Christ around the world. In fact, we believe the light that shines the farthest will be brightest at its source – part of our strategy for reaching our own city is to engage generously with God’s mission beyond our local context. Support for Global Mission ventures has been a hallmark of our church over the years, and we want it to be part of our reputation going forward. We support individuals, couples and families who have felt God’s call to serve him in a variety of mission contexts. We also support special projects and indigenous workers in different parts of the world and partner with a range of mission agencies. We invite people to contribute to a special Global Mission fund as part of their regular giving to the Lord. Our Global Mission initiatives are administered by a special task force, made up of people passionate to see our mission portfolio grow. Read our Global Mission policy document.
