In his prime, Professor Harris was New Zealand’s foremost Christian apologist, defending orthodox Christianity on BBC radio and TV1’s Holmes Show, and making contributions in the NZ Herald, the Sunday Times, the Wanaka Sun, the Otago Daily Times, and also Time magazine.

He has authored thirteen books, eight of them technical, in the area of Biblical studies and Greek. His most recent book is entitled The Seven Sayings of Jesus on the Cross (Wipf and Stock, 2016).

He was the founding editor of the 20-volume series entitled Exegetical Guide to the Greek New Testament (Broadman & Holman, 2013- ) and contributed the volumes on Colossians and Philemon and John.

He was one of the original translators of the NIV.
